Dr. Thomas Short was born in Tampa, Florida.  He attended medical school at Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  He completed his internship and residency at the University of Virginia in Roanoke-Salem, Virginia.  He completed a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.  He enjoyed practicing in Kentucky for approximately fifteen years before deciding to move to north Alabama in 2005.  He joined Decatur Gastroenterology in 2006.  He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Dr. Short is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology.
